Prophecy Fest announce three more bands for the Cave.

Prophecy Fest welcome three more bands to perform in the Cave of Balve in 2024: Finland’s psychedelic folk rockers Hexvessel have turned towards black metal lately, but they remain as one of the most requested bands by our visitors – and we are more than happy to oblige these wishes. The longships are coming! Iceland’s pagan metal spearheads Fortíð have sealed a contract to grant Prophecy Fest one of their rare appearances and their first German show ever. Anglo-Saxon epic doom veterans Solstice will also bring ancient folklore to the very place were the mythical blacksmith Wayland learned his craft.

Prophecy Fest comment: “Prophecy Fest 2024 is coming nicely together”, fest and label founder Martin Koller writes. “One of our aims is to offer a wide variety of music that represents or has influenced the label. Hopefully, you will agree with us that the billing of 2024 very much fulfils that goal. Only a few slots in the cave and Thursday’s Prophetic Overture remain to be announced, so please watch this space!”

Prophecy Fest will bring dark, forward thinking music with an attitude to one of the most fascinating cultural locations again, the legendary, natural Cave of Balve (“Balver Höhle”). The three day event will begin on Thursday, September 5 and it will conclude with a last concert starting before midnight of Saturday, September 7.

These acts have already been confirmed, with a handful more to be added in due time (in alphabetical order): ALCEST & Nicolas Horvath, ARTHUR BROWN, ARÐ, AUREOLE, AUSTERE, DOOL, EMPYRIUM, FARSOT, FEN, FORTÍÐ, GERM, HEXVESSEL, IN THE WOODS…, PARADISE LOST, PERCHTA, SOLSTICE, TCHORNOBOG, THIEF, and TRIPTYKON.

Presale for Prophecy Fest 2024 is up and running. About 85% of all available tickets have already found a new owner. The 2024 ticket price has been set to 139 €. Please see below for more details.

The naturally formed karst cave has been used by humans since the early stone age (palaeolithic). This important archaeological site has yielded remains from many periods through the ages until medieval times. According to Germanic legend transmitted through the old Icelandic Thidreksaga, the mythical blacksmith Wayland came to this cave to learn his magical craft from the dwarven masters that were dwelling there.

The gravity of its history and the special acoustics of the Balver Cave provide a unique atmosphere that perfectly echoes the musical spirit of Prophecy Festy.

New confirmed bands:

Finnish psychedelic folk rockers Hexvessel have expanded their already present doom elements with a heavy dose of blackness and unashamed infusion of metal on their latest full-length “Polar Veil” (2023). It appears that outstanding vocalist and guitarist Mat “Kvohst” McNerney is letting his black metal roots shine through again. Already founded in 2009, the Finns have managed to build a dedicated following over the years.

Fortíð have rarely graced the stage and even less so once mastermind Einar Thorberg Guðmundsson returned to live in his native homeland Iceland again. At the same time, the band has worked their way up with each new release. Their latest full-length “Narkissos” (2023) was again received with much applause both by press and fans. Don’t miss this rare chance to see them live and for the first tiome in Germany on stage in a fantastic location.

Solstice are clearly the brainchild of guitarist Richard M. Walker, who is also the only remaining member of the original line-up from the time of founding in 1990. The band has basically released one album per decade, favouring quality over quantity. Their particularly epic brand of doom and classic heavy metal has set them apart from their many Northern English peers right from the start. Expect a glorious first concert in the cave.
