Norwegian pop/rock group Kalandra are now releasing a lyric video for their new single “Bardaginn”. Check out the lyric video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4bwpngzf8U&ab_channel=kalandramusic
The title means ‘fight’ or ‘battle’, whether it’s experienced from within or out in the real world. The meaninglessness of it all, yet the importance for humans to find meaning in fighting for something, or someone.
Vocalist Katrine was curious about making a timeless lyrics using the Old Norse language. She teamed up with Norwegian lyricist and language consultant Alexander Lykke, and together with guitarists Jogeir and Florian and drummer Oskar, they’ve created a song unlike anything Kalandra has ever composed before.
The band adds: “This English translation of the Old Norse lyric has been crafted with creative adjustments to enhance the flow and readability of the text. While our intention was to maintain the essence and spirit of the original work, we acknowledge that some aspects may not be entirely accurate from a linguistic or historical perspective. Please keep in mind that the nuances of language and cultural context can be challenging to convey faithfully in translation. Our primary aim was to make the content more accessible and enjoyable for modern readers.”
Kalandra will be heading out with A.A. Williams this fall on a joint headliner tour through Europe. Spearheaded by four Norwegian/Swedish musicians, Kalandra is a band with roots in melancholic Nordic folk and gritty guitars, weaving ethereal melodies into raw and eerie musical landscapes.
After amassing over 5 million views on YouTube with their cover of Wardruna’s “Helvegen” (released as a digital single), self-releasing the two acclaimed singles “Brave New World” and “The Waiting Game” and composing two tracks for the HBO Nordic series “Beforeigners”, the band released their debut full-length album in 2020 via By Norse Music.
In 2021, the four piece followed up with a soundtrack for the game Kingdom Two Crowns: Norse Lands and toured Europe with Norwegian prog band Leprous in the year after. Now, the band is preparing for a new album and a tour with A.A. Williams, this winter.
